It's always been that my sister and I would stay up late on October 31st and plan our novels together. There would be a big bowl of popcorn and plates of brownies and cookies to be eaten. We would laugh and ty to persuade the other to name our characters the most outlandish names possible. We would stay up until midnight and then scribble furiously in our notebooks or type away on the laptop. We would write until the sun was coming up and then reluctantly close our books and have a few minutes sleep before the day began.
It's been our tradition and this year, while I have some inkling of what I will be writing, the gist of it is still to be explored on that night before as my sister and I huddle around the popcorn bowl and just enjoy each others company and write.
And this year the novel I will be writing is very different from anything I've ever written before. It's something completely new for me. There's no magic and elves. No cunning sorceress who manipulates the protagonist. No good king who rules over his people, oblivious to the witch's hold over him. There's no fairytale ending; no happily ever after.
There's only bravery and those without it. A kingdom without a king and missing princess. A strolling minstrel and a man named Silence who is as quiet as his name. And, as always, there's popcorn waiting to be eaten.

I am not doing NaNoWriMo, but at least one of my sisters is. I know that she has really enjoyed doing it in the past. Sounds like a really good book!
